CHOICES
Julie Dexter

choices we make never regret/ cos that was all we knew how to do/long time how you living/ my friend what’s been up in your life

the world’s been turning/ we’ve been journeying/but not together/ we chose to go our separate ways/ the road was long and hard/ through all kinds of weather/there were sunny days and at times the clouds lasted/ forever

now seeing you again/ after all this time brings back the memories/ of the moments we laughed and cried /but i have no regrets and i would do it all again/ right now i’m happy to see your face and i am glad/ that you are well

you have a son now and i got a baby girl/ we both been raising home and family/ making it work don’t come easy/ though we’ve strived for/ everlasting peace and love/ how can there be love if the struggle isn’t hard enough/ and now seeing you again/ after all of this time/ reminds me we were blessed we shared the best/ lessons of our lives/ we learned how to love and we learned how to give/ but the most important lesson of all is we learnt to/forgive

LIKE OURS
Julie Dexter

i live for the sun/you say you need showers/ i live in a concrete jungle/ your home is on an island/ i complain of the constant rain/ you say you fear for hurricanes/ i dream of walks by the ocean/ you wonder bout the city life motion/ i pray for an early morning sea breeze/ whilst you build sand castles on your knees/ you say you’d get on a bus to see me/ i’d rather sail a boat to greet thee

i remember it clear/ the day you appeared/ our eyes did meet/ it felt so sweet/the air was filled with scented flowers/ that moment it seemed like ours

our conversations on the phone/ are my nights your days are just begun/ letters you’ve been sending me/ are now my books of poetry/ we can’t yet reminisce of walks in the park or secret/ kisses in the dark/ but what we have is oh so rare/ i feel it love is in the air

LOOK WHO’S GOT YA BACK
Julie Dexter

look who’s got your back/ you are not alone/ though you’re far away/ reach out for a helping hand/ there might be someone around/ you’d be surprised/ i you realized/ there’s a support system/ waiting for your call if you need em/ and they’re your friends/some you’ve only known a few days/ but they’ll be there for you/ be a good ear when you need someone to listen

if you think you can’t find no one/ you’re wrong cos you can always count on him/ he knows the heartache you try to hide/ and he knows/how you’re hurting/ he’ll be there to answer your prayers/ whenever you call on him/ feel you need to talk to him/ he has solutions/ knows all your questions before you ask them/ talk to the lord won’t you/ you know he’s waiting to talk to you

A PLACE FOR US
Julie Dexter

maybe there’s a place for us/ maybe there’s a time for us/ there will be a day for us/ guess i’ll have to wait

i’m trying to figure out if we should stay as friends/ or if our destiny is to be lovers/ i guess it doesn’t matter either way/ we got something special for each other/ we’ve seen each other through the rough times/ been there to cry on

been an ear for you to listen/ when you need someone/ we’ve shared happy days celebrated birthdays/ wouldn’t be the same if you and i weren’t together

i wonder if you ever think the way i do/ have you ever me and you considered/ am i alone in my fantasy home and baby you and me/ is that only my vision/ you maybe think that you like things/ just the way they are/ haven’t had too may problems/ maybe they would start/ i could be wrong/ you could feel the way i do/ but you’re afraid to show your feelings like i’m with you/ doesn’t mean I got any less love for you/ i couldn’t imagine my world without you/ i still remember the day i found you/ and even though we’ve had our ups and downs/ i’m so glad that it is you i’m around

RHYTHM DAUGHTER
Julie Dexter

i’m a rhythm daughter/ i hear beats that rock me/ harmony that’s soothing/ grooves that can’t help move me/ come with me

take a trip with me/ through the black and white keys/ follow me let’s get lost/ the melody is calling us/ take a trip with your heart/ don’t you look for a start/ close your eyes don’t be shy/ we can fly to the sky

take my hand I’ll take you there/ don’t you worry if people stare/ the melody will call them too/ soon they will be dancing like you/ you can leave your troubles behind/ the beat is calling you and it’s dancing time/ if your worried you don’t know the moves/ i’m a rhythm daughter and i got moves to show you

CONSCIOUS
Julie Dexter

people we greet one another/ do you further than color/ black, white or brown what shade are you in/ are you conscious or complying

hypocrisy staining religion/ preacher man troubling children/ politicians sitting in church on Sunday /pondering how to pay taxes on monday

confiding in someone you think is your angel /finding out trust is a fragile situation/ the light you thought you had disguises hate and deceit/ these are the people we greet

i used to have a straight perm/ now i got dreadlocks/ my values may have changed a little but i ain’t lost/ but i’m hardened by experience/ and the tears help soften the blow/ and i’ll be sweeter with what the future brings/ this in know

SMALL WORLD
Julie Dexter

it’s a small world/ i wanna see new faces/ foreign places/ keep on learning/ keep on journeying

it’s funny how we talk about how small the world is/ but how many of us really know/ in all it’s wondrous beauty, oceans, islands all for the eyes to see/ some we’ll never know/ if opportunities come your way don’t let them pass you by/ don’t care what people say traveling can make you wise/ open up your mind meet people of different kinds appreciate the different cultures he has made

it’s strange how some of us will find/ love on our doorstep and so many of us don’t/ it is coincidence that you should meet someone you/ know by chance/a thousand miles from home/ if it is meant to be/ could it mean that was the place and time/ it could have easily been some other day some other/ place when all the while/ destiny and fate communicate if you just let it/ learn from your past mistakes/ don’t regret it

I SEE COLORS
Julie Dexter

colors beautiful colors/ dressing my new day/ loves coming my way

i see colors/ never have i seen/ dressing my new day/ it’s love that i’m in beautiful

i’m standing in an orange sand/ clear waters wash over my feet/ purple skies reflect in your eyes and I smile sweetly/ an amber sun who’s work is done reflecting on our/silence/ deafened by the crashing waves behind us/ a turquoise moon appears too soon

but you would not remember/ or maybe i’m mistaken and you heart did too surrender came the blue of the night/ still not a word or a sound/how could two strangers have found

THE RACE
Julie Dexter

the thought of giving up the race is out of the question/ yet everyday i question a new question/ not to mention/ everyday another question left unanswered/ and there’s confusion no solution/ where’s the resolution/no resolution/ but i’m making waves waves are making me/ in this game you read my name/trying not to claim fame but fame is claiming me/ writing my own destiny/ we need new writers/ writers need new inspiration/ our misfortune for too long has been the news sensation/ tears stain the pain all over the world

though you may have those days when you wanna/ throw it all away/ feel like you paid your dues but your dues are never done/ you feel your falling behind on the wayside but it’s temporary/ just remember he has a plan for us

children need a support system yes they do/ and i’ll keep saying the same til i see change in how/ we do/ do we know how/ been inspired lifted higher/ centuries of dedication by our fathers/ cannot be forgotten/ let not our time and talent be wasted energy let not/ the blood they shared for you and me/ let’s build upon the rocks they built upon/ let’s elevate we let’s celebrate we/ the thought of giving up the race is out of the question/ yet everyday i question a new question not to mention/ still looking for an answer everyday

RAIN SONG
Julie Dexter

footsteps on my roof/are you calling me/ i’m calling you/ tapping on my window pane watching me/ i was watching you

trailing down the drain pipes/ haunting me haunting you/ dancing drum n bass lines crying for me i cry for you

i hear angels singing/ singing songs of joy/ and they comfort my sorrow/ freedom bells are ringing/but i won’t know until tomorrow

rain song/ rain
